Brief Summary of Position:

An Account Manager manages and grows KaBOOM! partnerships with a variety of corporate and foundation sponsors (Funding Partners) who support our work to ensure all children get the play they need to thrive.  The Account Manager is a key representative of the KaBOOM! brand and culture.  Key responsibilities include working with Funding Partners to define the scope and scale of their respective programs; leveraging partnerships to increase internal and external visibility for KaBOOM!, our partners and the cause of play; managing and resolving conflicts as needed; working with other KaBOOM! teams to ensure high quality and timely support to the partnership; serving as a spokesperson for partnerships when needed; renewing partnerships and securing incremental investments; contributing to achievement of our organizational strategic priorities; and acting as a liaison between Funding Partners, community partners and KaBOOM! internal teams to ensure expectations of all partners are managed and understood.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Funding Partner Relationship Management

  • Strengthen and expand relationships with Funding Partners in support of our strategies and initiatives to ensure all children get the play they need
  • Serve as the official team leader for Funding Partner programs working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure coordinated and timely execution of contract requirements
  • Effectively position our cause, initiatives, and capabilities to maximize the value that Funding Partners place on their investment and experience with us
  • Oversee life-cycle of Funding Partner relationship with KaBOOM!: introduction, engagement, contract execution, and partnership renewal
  • Expand and deepen relationships broadly within each Funding Partner, with specific focus on engaging them in the playful KaBOOM! culture, building greater executive engagement and awareness, and prospecting new funding sources
  • Advise and collaborate with New Business Development team during partnership development phase
  • Maintain and demonstrate solid comprehension of organization mission, strategies, culture, values, history, programs and initiatives
  • Keep abreast of trends in corporate social responsibility
  • Provide increased value to the Funding Partner by raising visibility of the partnership via social media, web and newsletter storytelling, media, and award recognition
  • Create and share co-branded pitch, partnership or marketing materials as needed

General Duties

  • Communicates progress and collaborates regularly with supervisor and other KaBOOM! staff through our Salesforce platform, staff meetings, and periodic department progress reports
  • Represents KaBOOM! to our Funding Partners and other external stakeholders by attending on site meetings at corporate offices, participating in conferences, and/or publically speaking on behalf of KaBOOM!
  • Attends KaBOOM! Design Days, Build Days and other events, and supports promotional efforts as needed
  • Participates in internal KaBOOM! events and activities, including annual Play Academy (staff retreats), culture activities, other trainings and conferences
  • Actively contributes to our inclusive work environment by valuing other people regardless of differences and take an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence
  • The employee will be required to travel including driving rental or KaBOOM! owned vehicles

Minimum Qualifications

The Account Manager should thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and entrepreneurial nonprofit environment similar to a political campaign.  The ideal candidate is gregarious, confident, positive, creative, playful and skilled at communicating assertively and compassionately.

The Account Manager must have at least five (5) years' experience with a nonprofit organization or corporate foundation or be able to demonstrate work similar in nature and scope in account management/relationship development, communications or corporate sponsorship.   A college degree is required; advanced education or training in communications, cause-marketing partnerships, individual giving/donor relations, account management, or business is a plus.  The ideal candidate will be a playful individual who possesses a track record of verifiable success as evidenced through job experiences, accomplishments and achievements in cultivating client relationships, managing partnerships, and problem solving. 

This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated by the ability to establish and maintain relationships with external and internal constituencies.  S/he should be skilled in building coalitions among people, organizations and institutions.  The ability to understand and organize information, and to write about or speak extemporaneously on that information, is essential.  The individual must represent KaBOOM! professionally, accurately, and enthusiastically.  The individual should have solid persuasive and diplomatic skills.  The individual must have a strong interest in issues surrounding the quality of children's lives, particularly those living in poverty.
