TITLE: Grants Intern

DEPARTMENT: Project Management



LOCATION: Washington, DC

COMPENSATION: $500 stipend total



KaBOOM! is looking for a college student, recent college graduate or graduate student to join our dynamic Grants team. The Grants team is responsible for identifying and selecting highly qualified organizations to receive playground grant funding or a Play Everywhere Grant.

The Grants Intern is a critical role on the grants team. Under the supervision of the Grants Manager, the Grants Intern will directly support the needs of the team. The Grants Intern will work closely with the team to support the grant program portfolio, conduct outreach for prospective applicants, reach out to past grantees, and provide administrative support.  The Grants Intern must be able to work on multiple projects on fast passed timelines.


  1. Process, review, and evaluate grant applications and materials
  2. Make recommendations for grant awards
  3. Coordinate contract creation and administer awards (pending approval of the grants manager)
  4. Maintain records in database system
  5. Prepare special reports, studies and analyses
  6. Participate and/or assists in special projects, and perform associated administrative duties, as assigned
  7. Develop a good working understanding of each program's goals and strategies
  8. Analyze project evaluations
  1. Conduct research and outreach to identify prospective grant applicants
  2. Create stories about grantee impact for external use


  • A matriculating college student who has earned enough credits for a sophomore status, or a student who has graduated from college within the preceding six months
  • Ability to work in Washington, D.C. KaBOOM! office
  • Ability to work between 25-35 hours per week
  • Ability to work a minimum of 8 weeks May through August 2017
  • Ability to secure their own lodging/housing
  • Adhere to all KaBOOM! employment policies
  • Ability to think and problem-solve creatively
  • Strong project management and time management skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enjoy working independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or database system
